This time, we're reviewing the Fin Electronic Cigarette!
The Fin is a widely available "cig-alike" model which uses a small, re-chargeable battery, in conjunction with "cartomizers", which are disposable atomizers which contain E-Juice, also manufactured by Fin.

As always, we'll start a review by saying that this product was bought using our own funds, and we do not have any affiliation with the Fin brand other than sharing our opinions on a product!
Almost everyone has seen electronic cigarettes at various gas stations or supermarket chains, and almost everyone has been introduced to vaping in this way. We were, in fact, introduced to vaping through the Blu E-cigs. For beginners, or even experienced users who find themselves needing a product on the go, we often get curious to which of these brands actually work correctly, and which ones don't - even most new users have tried some of these models, only to exclaim, "Ew, this tastes like burnt cotton!" or "Geez, what is this, it tastes like melted plastic!?"
Some of these models out there, such as Blu, which are marketed as rechargeable, do not recharge or even turn on, according to our individual tests. We see this niche of the vaping field as fraudulent, with some Brands or Shops selling products that fall under the definition of a "Ponzi Scheme". Trust us, we've seen it all here at Good News!, and without a doubt, we've been trying to prove to ourselves that there may be at least one company who prides themselves on a product that turns on, recharges, and does not taste like burning plastic or polyfil (the inner material that soaks up E-Juice like a sponge).
After countless tests, with products such as Blu (whom we loved back in 2008-2009), Logic, Premium, NJoy, V2, and others, all whom had severe defects or contaminant flavors, we discovered the Fin E-cig.
The Fin E-Cig was the last choice in a series of tests we were doing with the "Gas Station" E-Cigs, and we were surprised to stumble onto something that, for better or worse, would be good for a new vaper to pick up. It's far from a perfect product, but does it work in a professional manner? Very much so.
As of right now, you can find a Rechargeable Kit for the Fin, which includes one battery, one cartomizers, and one USB charger, for only an average of $15.99 (price varies by location), and you can also use a $3-off coupon found on Fin's website to bring this price down further (you can indeed print it out and use it in any Gas Station, Walgreens, or Walmart!) Hands down, this presented to also be one of the absolute best electronic cigarette deals on the market, concerning Cig-Alike Kits.
Now to the "actual review".
Fin, as brand, have to be given a bit of credit because they do list the juice ingredients on the back of their packages, and while some of the ingredients are not common in the Vaping field, they are open and honest about which ingredients they do use. The ingredients listed are as follows:
Menthol:
-Propylene Glycol (common)
-Glycerin (common)
-Nicotine (common)
-Peppermint Oil (common)
-Menthyl Acetate (potentially uncommon)
-Carvone Laevo (we really have no clue)
-Menthone Racemic (we have less of a clue)
-Menthol Crystals Natural (common)
-Ethyl Menthane Carboxamide (what in the world?)
Tobacco:
(We misplaced the ingredient list, we'll update this as soon as we find it, but it was pretty much the same exact type of stuff.)
We have to question what in the world some of these ingredients are, but the truth is, Fin is honest about putting this stuff on the label, and we'll be honest about saying that we're vaping on it, so truthfully, these ingredients are less of a concern to us. We worry more about the residues, cleanliness, or chemical reactions of the shipping containers these ingredients would most likely be originally stored in during their original state.
On to the performance and taste test!
We first try out the Tobacco cartomizer, which is what came with our kit. Right away, we are simply blown by the complexity and savory flavor of the Tobacco E-Liquid these things hold. We perceived a flavor of slightly roasted, sugared Almonds, the type of scent and taste you get with the toasted, sugared Almonds that are cooked in those giant kettles at various Fair or Mall stands. We could taste the slightly toasted sugar, the nuttiness of the almonds (a bit a cross between peanuts, almonds, and cashews, though not organic enough in flavor to be unappealing), and a slight hint of wheat or grain. Right away, we were just knocked to floor concerning the flavor complexity, and we found ourselves saying, "If this was a bottle of E-Juice, we'd buy it!"
However, what was also noted is a strong, chemical bite that the juice itself seemed to have. It took us equally by surprise, and caused us to wonder why this effect seemed to happen (and by looking at the ingredients list, it was no surprise.) In all honesty, though, we actually enjoyed this chemical bite quite a bit - in an odd way, it replicated the feel of a cigarette, and gave us an extra bit of throat feel that a cigarette smoker may actually really enjoy. It didn't turn us away from these, we'll put it that way.
We continued to test the Tobacco cartomizer throughout the next few days, noting that the cartomizer absolutely did not let up in performance, unlike most cartomizers out there, which, to us, taste like singed polyfil after 3-5 puffs. This cartomizer, however, lasted about 3 days in all, of moderate vaping, with no negative tastes. By the end of this test, we noted a slight bit of dry polyfil taste creeping its way in, where we added some drops of Rejuve Belgian Cocoa, which revived the cartomizer for another day, and equally tasted quite good (the tips of the Fin cartomizers are easily removable - we use a metal fork to pry them off!)
During this time, we note that the Fin battery would last about 2 hours if one were to take a puff every 2 minutes, and takes around an hour to charge. It's probably one of the shortest-lasting batteries we've ever come across, but for effectively $6 (with-coupon, minus the additional cost of the USB charger and single cartomizer), we're not going to make a scene about it.
Next was a test with a pack of Menthol cartomizers (the "normal" nicotine level, labeled as "Smooth Taste.")
With the Menthol cartomizers, we also receive a stout chemical texture in the vape, but speaking of flavor, the Menthol cartomizers are almost identical to Halo's Mystic in terms of flavor. It would be described as a very soft, Peppermint Oil type of flavor. The layers of the flavorings were much less complex than the Tobacco, and we were hoping for more of a stouter Menthol, but this flavor does an equally good job of holding up as the Tobacco carts did. We did not notice any single drop in performance until about 3 days of moderate vaping, and same as the Tobacco, we added some extra juice, Halo's Mystic to be specific, which revived the cartomizer for a few extra days, and tasted just as pleasant.
We were also extremely proud to say that each cartomizer in the pack of 5 worked just as good as the other, none of them tasting burnt, hashy, or like singed Polyfil. We also noted that the cartomizer packs came in foil "Blister Packs", which we believed had a tremendous effect on the freshness and moist flavor of the Fin cartomizers.
At this point, we find ourselves really enjoying this product, and we find ourselves carrying it along with us to various jobs and places, sneaking some vapes where larger devices wouldn't be as concealed, and we become sort of addicted to the experience quite quickly. The Fin begins to calm some of our cigarette cravings as no other device really seems to!
Next, we buy the "Bold" version of the Menthol cartomizers, which are 2.4% nicotine, to test and see if it helps our cigarette cravings a little more.
However, a negative experience brings itself into the mix. With the "Bold" version of the cartomizers, we quite stoutly experience a taste of "plastic" and "slight dryness" that plagues other E-Cigarette brands. We become quite let down, and discover that on top of the initial taste of this set, that they also get quite extreme in this taste after about 15 puffs.
We're not sure if this pack was not filled properly, or if the Nicotine found in them (which is a higher percentage) had been stored in plastic barrels which had leached a negative flavor into the chemical, or what, but we were simply very let down by this, and we cannot recommend the %2.4 version. As strange as it sounds, the %2.4 version, because of the contaminant taste and dry effect, also gave us some truly odd fits of coughing that mysteriously would rise up about 5 minutes after taking a puff.
In all reality, though, we love the "Normal" version of the carts, and we didn't perceive any more or less Nicotine feel with those. We simply perceived tremendously better flavor!
Overall, we're very proud to say that, at least in some form, this is a widely available E-Cigarette that is sure to provide a decent experience for anyone looking to pick up their first E-Cig (and we again recommend the lower Nicotine cartomizers! You can even choose which cartomizer comes with the original $15.99 kit, they sell different versions of that kit virtually anywhere!), and with the online coupon, you can wiggle your in-store price down to $12.99 at the right place. You can't beat that deal!
It actually becomes even a decent little E-Cig that even the most experienced of Vapers may want to stash in their pockets or purses for a quick Vape!
